  • Prepaid. You add credit in fixed amounts on the wallet page. No subscription and no seats.
  • Reserve, then settle. A job reserves its rate when admitted. When it settles, the reservation is charged or released exactly once. A crash between those points is recovered, never double-charged.
  • Only definite answers are charged. A verification is charged when status is valid or invalid. A find is charged when status is found. Nothing else is, ever.
  • Rates are fixed per job. rate_micros is recorded at submission, so a later price change never re-prices work you already submitted.
  • Promotional credit is spent first. It has no cash value and cannot be withdrawn. Purchased credit never expires.
  • Running out stops new work. New submissions return 402 insufficient_funds. Jobs already admitted still settle.

What you are never charged for

A catch-all domain where the identity lane did find a profile is a different thing: that is a valid, and it is charged. You are paying for the answer, not for the attempt.

Auto top-up

You can have the wallet refill itself instead of watching it. Set it on the wallet page: pick an amount and the balance that should trigger it, for example top up $25 when my balance falls below $5.
  • It uses the card Stripe saved from your last manual top-up. There is no separate card form, and we never see or store your card.
  • It is checked every few minutes, off to the side of your lookups. A slow or declined card can never delay or fail a job.
  • The top-up must be larger than the balance that triggers it, so a refill always clears the trigger and the rule cannot fire in a loop.
  • Three declines in a row switch the rule off and tell you why, rather than retrying a dead card forever.
Automatic charges appear in your top-up list like any other payment. Current rates are on the pricing page. Amounts in the API are micro-dollars: 2000 is $0.002.

Reading your balance

estimates is how many lookups the available balance covers at current rates. It is an estimate, not a quota.
